маленькие "Беллы" ("детки"): семь региональных телефонных компаний после разделения АТ&T в 1984 г.; соглашение об их создании давало им монополию на местные телефонные услуги, но запрещало участвовать в междугороднем (международном) телефонном бизнесе или производстве телефонного оборудования, а сама АТ&T в обмен на это не имела права участвовать в местном телефонном бизнесе; в настоящее время эти различия практически стерлись; в число семи "деток" входят компании: NYNEX (северо-восточные штаты), Bell Atlantic (Средне-атлантические штаты), BellSouth (южные штаты), Southwestern Bell Corp. - SBC (юго-западные штаты), Ameritech (Средний запад), U.S.West (штаты региона Скалистых гор), Pacific Telesis (тихоокеанское побережье).
